Last Night at Midnight

2026
Trailer
“Last Night at Midnight” is an experimental short film based on an octosyllabic poem written by Gualberto Gutiérrez in 1819, at a time when terror reigned in the Viceroyalty of New Granada. The poem recounts, with irony and cruelty, the night when Viceroy Juan Sámano fled from Santafé to Cartagena following the defeat of the royalist troops at the Battle of Boyacá. Far from a conventional historical reconstruction, the film fragments the poem and transforms it into a delirious visual machine: jungles, rituals, prayers, grotesque bodies, and ominous omens accompany the flight of a power that no longer rules. Characters emerging from sculpture, dance, and theater embody a sinister dramaturgy in which official history is dismantled and laid bare.
